Tip: Parallel Parking
I was at the DMV recently getting my new picture for my license which was going to expire on my 30th birthday. I was standing in a very long and grueling line when I overheard two women talking behind me. They were talking about parking and how one of the women never parallel parked because she was scared.
I thought to myself I know how to parallel park! I was taught an amazing trick that gets me in every time! I had to intervene! Feeling a bit funny I turned around and just said “I have a great trick for parallel parking it has worked for me every time” She seemed happy and interested so I continued.
Trick:
1. You pull your car up to the car in front of the empty spot you are going to park in. Close but no 2 close
2. Line your side mirror up with that cars mirror
3. Cut the wheel into the turn
4. When you see the license plate of that car in your peripheral vision cut your wheel the opposite way
5. You should be right in that spot!
If you are scared to parallel park get someone to park their car and keep practicing this trick so you feel comfortable with the distance between you and the other car when you first pull up. That distance will come with practice.
I wish I knew who to give credit to for teaching me that trick. It was some time ago!
Although that line was so long I was happy to be able to share my little trick. I also like my new 30 year old picture:}
