Closet Organization

I need organization in my life. I have peace when there is order. I also like things around me being bright and fun:} This goes for every part of my home including my closet. I was so tired of looking at my hangers that were a hodge-podge of colors and sizes.

I decided to go to the container store for some ideas. I found a big box of all pink and green hangers {there were other colors as well}. I switched the hangers and donated my old ones.

Now my closet feels more fun, bright and peaceful:} Thank you container store for actually having fun and bright colors!

I believe we need to make our own choices about food. I also believe that if you are unaware of your choices its hard to make the right ones. The way soda, sugar cereals and fast food are presented to the public, would make one assume that it was in fact food. The way “fake food” is presented to children is really a disservice to our human race. Commercials and advertisements want children, and everyone for that matter, to believe soda will make them happy and sugar packed, artificially colored cereal will give them great energy.

One step we can take is educating ourselves about food. We can watch documentaries like this and read about food. We can go to a farmers market and simply admire all of the beautiful produce. Then we can take our knowledge and feed ourselves as we see fit. I love having the freedom to choose what I eat and having the understanding of why I chose those foods.

Sleep Soundly

This is a sound machine. I never knew that I could sleep better with this machine. Now I can’t imagine how quiet it would be without it. The nice steamlined hummm is what makes it so comforting. This particular machine is borrowed but we are definitely going to invest in one for ourselves!

BPA In Some Sigg Water Bottles

This is an old article my husband found and forwarded me yesterday. Sigg is not doing the exchange program anymore.

After years of denying their “green” water bottles contained BPA the CEO of Sigg, a Swiss company, has admitted these bottles do in fact contain BPA after all. Sigg has an exchange program allowing you to send in Sigg bottles with the former BPA liner in exchange for their new EcoCare liner which they claim to be free of BPA.

They say that the rust color liners do in fact contain BPA and they “claim” that their new liners are BPA free. What I feel like doing is learning how to blow my own glass and make my own glass water bottle.

Here is an alternative my husband heard about. They say there is no BPA in their water bottles. Kleen Kanteen

Reusable Produce Bags

I always bring my own reusable bags to the grocery store. Although that makes me feel good, I was still using those long thin plastic bags from the store for my produce. I knew I needed a solution! I found these great netted bags on amazon for a great price. You can reuse them over and over and even wash them. Now I go shopping and come home with no extra “baggage.” Love it!

For years, aprons were commonplace and worn with pride. But somewhere along the line the apron became shorthand imagery for all that was holding women back, an emblem of humble domesticity and repression. When an apron was required for practical reasons, it certainly wasn’t flaunted. (If your mom was like mine, she’d yank that apron off before answering the front door.) And still today, when a man is too close to his mother, we say he’s tied to her apron strings.

But a growing community of self-proclaimed apronistas is seizing the apron back from such dusty, anachronistic thinking. No longer a symbol of kitchen drudgery, the apron has returned with a vengeance, ushered by a renewed appreciation of all things domestic.

When we first got married on our way home from our honeymoon I really wanted an apron. We went into a country store and I asked to try on the aprons. The women looked at me funny and said no one has asked to try them on before, but she let me.

After using my apron for some time I realized there were things I needed if I wanted to be completely happy with my apron, thats when I started making my own. I knew I wanted a neckline that didn’t fall when I leaned over, so I made the halter top go through the fabric to have it gather. Also because I am constantly washing my hands I wanted a little bib on my apron to just pick up quick and dry my hands. I also wanted it to fit me really good and be fun and beautiful!

I am calling my apron design “The Curtsey”

Grocery Shopping Bags

I have heard many people say that they have bags for grocery shopping but they always forget them. Here is my system for remembering my bags…

I keep my bags by the front door.

When I go out to my car I see my bags and bring them to the car. I always keep them behind my seat.
If you need the room behind your seat and need to put your bags in the trunk, you can make a pretty sign and post it on your dashboard to remind you that your ‘bags are in the trunk’. My problem is that if I didn’t see them I might forget!

I go shopping, bring them home and put everything away.

When all groceries are away I put my bags back by the front door.

If you need to make signs to remember your bags do it! Make yourself a system and figure out how you can sustain that system. This is a serious issue. This is a small step we can take to help plastic bags be a thing of the past.
